Old Moor Reserve

Took a trip down to Old Moor reserve in Barnsley on a
cold but sunny day hoping to see Bittern, Bearded Tit,
Brambling and Yellowhammer and was lucky to see 2
out of the 4 the Bearded and the hammer, the Bearded
Tit was near impossible to get a view of never mind getting
a camera focus on it and a Brambling could have been mixed
in with the lots of Chaffinch that were there but no positive ID.
3 Buzzards were soaring a long way off and needed a scope to
see the 2 Barn Owls that were there and their were more Shovelers
there than anywhere else I've been to.
Also had a hour at Denaby Ings but with the lake being iced over
it was fairly quiet, 7 Cormorants, 10+ Tufted Ducks, 10+ Teal,
      2 Mistle, 2 Song Thrush, 1 Redwing, 1 Kestrel, 4 Robins, 2 Chaffinch.

Great to see Yellowhammer and even better when they are calling.
I used to get to see lots of them when I had a caravan at Knaresborough - I haven't seen one in Calderdale.
